Nicosia mayor Charalambos Prountzos signed contracts on Tuesday for the restoration of a house to create a care centre for children with disabilities with the CEO of AKI Constructions Ltd Athenodoros Iosif.

According to a statement released by the municipality, the project involves restoring a 180-square-metre single-storey house with a surrounding yard in a central residential area of Ayios Dhometios, near the traditional core and between Grigori Afxentiou and Agiou Pavlou avenues.

The house, built in the 1950s, was donated to the Ayios Dhometios municipality by its owners for the purpose of enhancing its social programmes. The house has remained uninhabited for the past ten years, the statement said.

The proposed restoration will upgrade the building, including energy efficiency improvements, and create suitable facilities for children aged four to 12. The outdoor area will be landscaped, and a playground will be installed with equipment suitable for use by children with disabilities.

The restoration design was completed by Ioakeim & Loiza – Architects and Engineers Ltd.

The project is being carried out under the Cohesion Policy Programme ‘Thaleia 2021-2027’ with co-financing from the European Union, the statement added.
