A fire in the Limassol district village of Alektora burned a total of a hectare of a half of land on Wednesday night.

The land burnt was mostly forest scrub vegetation.

The fire had broken out at around 9.15am, with four fire engines, one earth mover, and 13 people from the forestry department being employed to put it out.

Additionally, a total of three fire engines and ten people from the fire brigade, and two fire engines and four people from the British bases helped in putting the fire out.

The fire was brought under control at 11.30pm, with firefighting forces remaining in the area throughout the night to deal with any rekindling.
