Ambassadors from Arab countries in Cyprus held an “emergency meeting” on Monday morning to discuss a joint plan of action to support Palestine and Lebanon.
The meeting was announced by the Palestinian embassy, which said its purpose was to “mobilise efforts and discuss a joint plan of action in support of Palestine and Lebanon”.
In addition, they said, the meeting aims to “exert diplomatic pressure for an end to Israeli aggression and a ceasefire both in Palestine and Lebanon”.
The meeting comes as tensions continue to escalate in the Middle East, with Israel having struck central Beirut with a missile for the first time since 2006 on Monday morning.
Other strikes in the region have wiped out most of militant group Hezbollah’s leadership, including its leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, while the United Nations reported that 100,000 people have fled Lebanon for Syria since the latest escalation in the conflict.
