A five-year plan to upgrade all bus stops in Cyprus, with the aim of improving the infrastructure and quality of public transport, is set to be launched, the public works department said on Tuesday.
Works will start on the first stops between October and December.
In the Nicosia district, works will be carried out on bus stops on its main avenues, namely Strovolos, Makarios, Limassol, Athalassa, Larnaca, Nikis, Grivas Digenis and Iosif Hadjiosif Avenues.
Bus stops in Kantaras, Eleonon, and Pericleous-Andreas Avraamides streets in Strovolos will also be repaired.
In the Limassol district, the move will affect bus stops on Makarios, Grivas Digenis, Franklin Roosevelt, Spyrou Araouzou-28th October, and Ayia Fyla Avenues.
In Larnaca, this will concern bus stops on USA, Eleftheria, George Christodoulides, Athinon, Grigoris Afxentiou, Makarios and Ammochostos-Dekeleia Avenues.
In the Famagusta district works will be carried out in Protaras, Cavo Greco and 1st April Avenues.
Finally, in Paphos, the works will affect bus stops in Makarios, Athinon, Apostolou Pavlou, Ellados, Gladstone-Evagoras Pallikarides Avenues, and Nikodimou Mylona.
The works will entail the excavation of sidewalks to create foundations, and the installation of new canopies at bus stops.
The department also called on pedestrians, bus passengers and motorists to exercise caution when crossing the areas where works are being carried out, and to comply with local regulations for their own safety.
