Pharos Arts Foundation hosts three concerts in Nicosia
Three exceptional concerts are coming to Nicosia’s old town this November, presented by the Pharos Arts Foundation. Held at the intimate venue of The Shoe Factory, the evenings of November 13, 20 and 28 will be full of music and charm with both local and international musicians performing.
The Song Recital with Cypriot soprano Zoe Nicolaidou and Czech pianist Zbyněk Maruška is coming up first in 10 days’ time. After having performed in renowned venues across the globe such as Opera National de Paris, Musikverein Wien, Lincoln Center in New York and Rudolfinum in Prague, Pharos Arts Foundation welcomes back the Cypriot soprano, as part of its Cyprus Artists Series, for a voice and piano recital.
On Wednesday, November 13, Zoe will perform in her homeland joined by Maruška presenting some of the most evocative, soulful and poetic art songs and arias ever written by Czech composers such as Dvořák, Janáček, Smetana and Sůk, but also their contemporaries, Massenet, Ravel and Korngold.
Later in the month, The Shoe Factory will host the Goldmund Quartet, which is now counted among the leading string quartets of the younger generation worldwide. The talented four musicians are known for their “exquisite playing” and “multi-layered homogeneity” in their interpretations of the great classical and contemporary works of the quartet literature.
Their concert in Nicosia on November 20 marks their Cyprus debut and the quartet will celebrate the occasion with a superb programme of string quartets by Schumann, Borodin and Gerald Finzi.
Bringing exquisite piano skills is a final November recital. Having been described as an artist with remarkable interpretive depth and technical finesse, pianist Emanuil Ivanov is a world-renowned musician who will perform in Nicosia on November 28.
Ivanov has appeared with many notable orchestras around the world, constantly expressing his affinity towards the neglected and rarely performed works of the piano repertoire, and he is a frequent guest in renowned international festivals. The Pharos Arts Foundation, collaborating once again with London’s Keyboard Charitable Trust, presents this unique recital with the young pianist, who will present works by Beethoven, Shostakovich and Rachmaninov.
