The CFA Society Cyprus this week announced the launch of the CFA Institute University Research Challenge at Athlos House.
In the context of the competition, CFA Society Cyprus invited Cypriot university students to analyse Bank of Cyprus stock, in turn promoting financial analysis skills and practical market experience.
The challenge, part of a global initiative by the CFA Institute, encourages students to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world contexts.
Students are tasked with analysing a listed company’s financials, culminating in a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold its shares, which they will present to a committee of CFA Charterholder-approved analysts.
Each team is supported by a mentor with a CFA designation.
Winners will represent Cyprus in the regional competition, with a chance to advance to the international finals.
Additionally, the winning team will participate in a separate competition in Dubai, competing against teams from the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East.
“We are proud that, through the CFA Institute University Research Challenge, we are supporting the next generation of leaders in the financial sector,” said Jan-Hofmeyr Retief, Head of the University Relations and Equity Research Challenge Committee.
He added that the programme pushes students to excel academically while gaining skills they’ll need in real-world finance.
The challenge, Retief explained, reflects CFA Society Cyprus’ commitment to “promoting the highest standards of ethics, education, and professional excellence in the financial sector”.
