A 12 per cent reduction in vehicle traffic was recorded at the entrance to Nicosia during the morning rush hour – 7am to 8 am – in October, according to the department of public works, which monitors daily traffic through permanent counters on the capital’s main roads.

The department reported that traffic on the Nicosia ring road reached a daily average of 17,000 vehicles in both directions.

During the morning peak hours, approximately 2,600 vehicles were recorded in both directions.

In total, around 380,000 vehicles used the Nicosia ring road in October, the department estimated.

At the entrance to Nicosia on the Nicosia-Limassol motorway, traffic dropped by 12 per cent during the morning peak, while on Spyros Kyprianou avenue, there was a 10 per cent reduction, according to preliminary data from traffic measurements.

The department further highlighted that traffic measurements on the E120 road towards Tseri, Chalepianes road showed a 40 per cent reduction in daily traffic.

This road typically experiences congestion during the morning rush hour, particularly towards the Nicosia-Limassol motorway from Tseri.
