The met office on Sunday upped its weather warning for Sunday from the initial yellow to orange over storms.
In place from 8am to 6pm, the region is expected to be affected by isolated heavy thunderstorms, with heavy rains.
Hail is very likely along with strong gusts of wind.
The fire service called on authorities to ensure drains, sewers and rivers were cleared of debris, dirt or vegetation.
It urged the public to ensure water pumps are properly working, gutters are properly working and items such as advertising boards, cylinders, tanks and scaffolding are properly secured.
Police also issued a warning over the Limassol-Paphos highway, particularly for the Paramali, Sotira, Petra tou Romiou and Kouklia areas.
Water and hail had accumulated on the roads, creating dangerous conditions for vehicles.
Similar phenomena were also observed in the Platres and Troodos area.
One lane on the Mandria – Pera Pedi road was closed due to a large accumulation of water. The Gerasas – Agros road had also closed.
Drivers are urged to be particularly careful, drive slowly and keep their blinking lights on while keeping safe distances from other vehicles.
