Is it too soon to bring out the Christmas decorations and get into the holiday spirit? Perhaps not as the Christmas Villages are to open soon all around the island and before you know it the aroma of mulled wine, melomakarona and chestnuts will fill the air. Arriving shortly to add a touch of elegance and grace to this festive season is a series of timeless classical ballet shows.

Coming up towards the end of this month is the ultimate Christmas ballet – The Nutcracker. An esteemed cast of dancers will bring Tchaikovsky’s renowned ballet to Cyprus, based on the popular fairy tale The Nutcracker and the Mouse King by ETA Hoffmann.‎ With choreographies by Marius Petipa and stunning costumes, The Nutcracker’s adventures will tour Larnaca, Paphos, Nicosia and Limassol on November 27, 29, 30 and December 1 respectively.

Around the same time, the international troupe Grand International Classic Ballet will present Swan Lake in an original production around Cyprus’ theatres. Under the direction of Sergei Bobrov, the ballet will present a magical performance based on the first edition by Tchaikovsky himself. On stage will be ballet first-class artists from England, Italy, France and Spain performing in Paphos on November 28, Nicosia on November 30 and Limassol on December 1.

Equally as enchanting will be the Celebrity Christmas Gala on November 29 and 30 at Pattihio Theatre. Performances by leading artists from Amsterdam, Munich, Budapest and Paris will charm audiences with spellbinding acts from The Nutcracker, La Bayadere, Paquita, Swan Lake and more.

And that is not all, come December, more Christmas-themed ballets and shows will grace Cypriot stages.
