Electricity outages due to increased lightning activity have burnt out power supplying the communities of Emba, Tala, Chloraka and Kissonerga in the Paphos district, with three major power cuts over the past 24 hours.

Two of the power cuts were quite a few hours long, Emba community leader Marios Metaxas said.
He added that the problems arose with the first bad weather to hit Paphos district.

Meanwhile, the electricity authority (EAC) is working on restoring power.

EAC spokeswoman Christina Papadopoulou said the outages were due to increased lightning activity, which burned out the network.

Papadopoulou said teams were working on repairing or in some cases replacing the damaged equipment, however some areas were not accessible to the workers.

She called on the residents to show understanding during works, which would cause 30-minute power cuts.
