Two men are wanted on Wednesday for a car bomb explosion overnight in Limassol which damaged three vehicles and the roof of a home.
Police inquiries resulted in the naming of two suspects who are wanted while the motive appears to be financial. Authorities are examining CCTV footage and other evidence from the scene.
According to the police, preliminary findings confirmed the criminal activity as well as the intent to inflict further damage.
The crimes took place shortly before 11pm in the Panioti area of Germasogeia, where an explosion in a car belonging to a 21-year-old set the vehicle on fire, with the blaze subsequently spreading to two adjacent antique vehicles belonging to the 21-year-old’s father, parked in the same garage, and to the roof of the residence.
Fire fighters arriving in three fire engines managed to extinguish the flames preventing further damage.
Investigations at the scene established the case as one of arson, and that the perpetrators had attempted to set a fourth car alight by throwing a Molotov cocktail, without succeeding.
Two of the three vehicles had been valued at €30,000 and €6,000, while the third valuation was pending.
The scene remains under guard while Limassol police are furthering the investigation. The two suspects are wanted for conspiracy to commit a crime and for arson.
