Agriculture Minister Maria Panayiotou is in Warsaw on Monday to participate in the first coordination meeting of the EU Council of Agriculture and Fisheries presidencies. The presidency trio comprises Poland, Denmark and Cyprus, which will lead the council in succession.

Monday’s meeting will be held at Poland’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and be attended by Polish Agriculture Minister Czesław Siekierski and Denmark’s Minister for Food, Agriculture, and Fisheries Jacob Jensen, along with delegations from the three states.

Discussions will centre on the trio’s shared priorities for the common agricultural policy (CAP) and the common fisheries policy (CFP), aiming to strengthen collaboration and address mutual challenges.

Key objectives include promoting sustainable, competitive, and resilient agricultural, fisheries, and aquaculture sectors, ensuring food security, fair incomes for farmers, and improving farmers’ and fishers’ positions in the food supply chain.

Panayiotou is accompanied by the director-general of the agriculture ministry and other officials, and will present Cyprus’ perspectives and contribute to shaping the trio’s strategy.

The minister is expected to return to Cyprus on Monday evening.
