The Cyprus Yacht Owners Association has called for the immediate return to the previous Larnaca marina fees.

On Monday, the association called on Transport Minister Alexis Vafeades, after a cabinet decision to official name his ministry as the marina’s administrator, to restore previous fees and end the “injustice against us by practices contravening the principles of equal treatment and non-discrimination.”

The yacht owners docking at Larnaca marina said they were unfairly paying twice as much compared to other state docking areas.

The association also raised the issue of dredging and replacing damaged docks.

“We keep hearing about these necessary projects but we have seen nothing […] Lives and property are at danger at the marina,” it said.

The yacht owners said Larnaca marina could be profitable with proper management and called on the transport minister “to consider your mistakes which must have cost the taxpayers millions of euros.”
