The Green Party on Tuesday said it was “deeply concerned” over a lack of care and respect by municipal workers who damaged graves in Aglandjia while pruning trees.

According to the party a number of graves were recently damaged at the Constantinos and Elenis cemetery on Larnaca avenue.

The cemetery was visited by party leader Giorgos Perdikis to examine the damage to several graves.
“This act, although perhaps necessary, was carried out without the proper respect to a holy space,” the party said.

“It is offensive and unacceptable and makes it look as if the graves were desecrated.”

The party is demanding an immediate investigation by the local authorities responsible for maintaining the cemetery and called on them to both right the damage and make sure it doesn’t happen again.

“We call on the competent bodies to show the necessary sensitivity and ensure the dignity and respect that our dead deserve,” it concluded.
