The Paphos district court on Sunday remanded a 28-year-old woman for four days for attempted smuggling of a large quantity of cigarettes.
According to assistant Paphos police chief Michalis Nikolaou, on Saturday at around 3.30pm a Paphos airport customs officer searched the foreign woman’s luggage as she intended to depart from Cyprus to Manchester.
Customs officers found 120 boxes containing 200 undeclared and unlabelled cigarettes packs each.
The 28-year-old was arrested shorty after 4pm for their illegal possession and taken to court where the remand was issued.
The woman subsequently abandoned the items for confiscation and was released after paying a fine of €5,000.
