Over 2,600 traffic violations were recorded nationwide during traffic stops last week, police said on Tuesday.

The were offences clocked outside of the automated traffic cameras system.

According to police, between December 2 and 6, some 777 drivers were booked for speeding, 202 for using a mobile phone while driving and 201 for failing to use seat belts either the driver or passengers. Nine motorcyclists were booked for failure to wear a helmet.

Also, 51 drivers were booked for driving under the influence of alcohol, 51 for illegal parking and 49 for parking in disabled spaces, as well as 1,290 for other more minor offences.
