President Nikos Christodoulides will travel to Brussels on Wednesday where he will participate in the European Council Summit on Thursday.

He will also participate in the proceedings of the enlarged session of the European People’s Party.

A meeting about immigration, hosted by the prime minister of Denmark, will also be on his agenda.

The European Council Summit will focus on Ukraine, the role of the EU in the world and immigration.

In the evening, the leaders of EU member states will attend a working dinner on developments in the Middle East and the situation in Syria.

Christodoulides will outline Cyprus’ proposals and the need for close monitoring by and an active presence of the EU in shaping the new situation in Syria.

He is also expected to have a bilateral meeting with president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, along with other leaders.

Christodoulides will be accompanied by deputy minister for European affairs Marilena Raouna and the director of the presidential press office Victor Papadopoulos.

He will depart from Brussels on Friday for Athens, where among other engagements he will be awarded an honorary doctorate by the Department of History, Archaeology and Culture of the University of Peloponnesos in Kalamata, of which he will also be declared an honourary citizen.
