The Paphos police arrested a 50-year-old man on Monday night in connection with an ongoing investigation into illegal possession of property and burglary tools.
Paphos district court issued a three-day remand order against him to facilitate investigations.
According to a statement from Paphos police, the arrest took place around 8pm during a routine patrol by members of the Paphos Crime Prevention Unit, who stopped the suspect’s vehicle for inspection.
Officers discovered five spools of copper wire along with a small copper roll. As the suspect was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding their origin, he was arrested on the spot for the offence of illegal possession of property.
Furthermore, a search of the vehicle uncovered various burglary tools and he was further arrested for possession of burglary equipment.
Additional checks revealed that the suspect was driving without a licence and valid insurance. He also refused to provide a breath sample for a drug test.
The case is being investigated by the Paphos CID in collaboration with the Paphos Traffic Police.
