Green hills, dresses made out of curtains, runaway nuns with a guitar in hand. These are a few of the favourite things about the beloved musical The Sound of Music that won over global audiences since its release 1965. Featuring the ever-so-charming Julie Andrews in the role of Maria, the film tells the story of the von Trapp family in Austria whose life turns upside down when Maria arrives with her kind nature, joyful spirit and songs.

Bringing a taste of the renowned musical to local audiences is a new production by the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra. Audiences in Limassol and Paphos will get experience the tale and music of the film come to life at the hands of talented musicians, singers and narrators.

The Family Concerts 3 will include vocalist Aliki Chrysochou who will both narrate the story and perform Richard Rodgers’ famous songs, including I Have Confidence, My Favourite Things, Do-Re-Mi and many more, immortalised by Andrews in the original film. Accompanying her will be the musicians of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra as well as images from the film that will be projected during the performance.

Tying of all this together will be the Orchestra’s honourary conductor Alkis Baltas and pianist Vicky Stylianou. The special January performance welcomes audiences of all ages and will first greet viewers on January 17 at Rialto Theatre for a 6pm performance and then on January 18 at Pallas Theatre for a dual show – at 4pm and 5.30pm.
