The President of the Congress of Deputies (Lower House) of Spain, Francina Armengol Socias, and the Vice-President of the Spanish Senate, Javier Ignacio Maroto Aranzábal, arrive in Cyprus on Sunday for a three-day official visit, following an invitation from House President Annita Demetriou.

The delegation is accompanied by high-ranking officials of the Spanish parliament.

According to a parliamentary press release, the two officials are also visiting Cyprus in their capacity as representatives of the Spanish Presidency of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean (PAM) during the current semester for the purposes of promoting the priorities of the Spanish Presidency with emphasis on the management of the migration issue.

Duing their stay here, the officials will be received by President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides, and will have a meeting with the House President Annita Demetriou. Furthermore, they will have separate meetings with the members and chairman of the House committee on foreign and European affairs, as well as the head of the Cypriot delegation to the PAM, Averof Neophytou.

The two officials will also have a meeting with the Deputy Minister of Migration Nikolas Ioannides, and will subsequently visit the Pournara First Reception Centre in Kokkinotrimithia together.

The President of the Congress of Deputies and the Vice President of the Senate of Spain, accompanied by the President of the Parliament, will tour Old Nicosia along the ceasefire line. They will also visit Lefkara village, where they will have a meeting with the mayor Sophocles Sophocleous.

The Spanish officials will be welcomed upon their arrival at the airport by Demetriou, and the Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Spain in Nicosia, Manuel de la Iglesia Anglada.
