A 29-year-old man was found heavily injured at 1.10am at an abandoned building site in Limassol.
Police said the man appeared to have been hit in the back with a so-far unknown object while outside the building site.
His attackers fled the scene, according to the police.
The man was taken by ambulance to Limassol general hospital, where he was admitted for injuries to the pneumothorax.
His condition is described as serious but stable.
A 28-year-old man, who appeared to be a friend of the victim, was the one who found him and called the ambulance.
Police investigations found the second man had been illegally residing in Cyprus since 2022 and arrested him.
Limassol police are investigating.
