The cabinet has approved an amount of €1.5 million for the dredging and renovation of the Larnaca marina, Transport Minister Alexis Vafeades said on Wednesday. The work is seen as essential for ensuring the marina’s safe operation and improving both its functionality and the surrounding areas.
The dredging has been a demand of boat owners because of the reduced depth of certain areas of the marina, particularly during the summer months when low tide worsens navigation problems. Vafeades said the works were necessary to ensure safe entry and exit for vessels and to enhance the overall safety of the marina.
“This is part of our commitment to the people of Larnaca that we would move forward with these works as quickly as possible. The studies for the dredging have already been completed, and we are now proceeding with the tendering process,” the Minister stated.
The total cost of the project is estimated at €1.5 million. The works are expected to take approximately six months to complete, although the tendering process must be finalised first. Vafeades confirmed that this will begin immediately, with the project set to get underway as soon as possible.
The dredging and renovation will be carried out in such a way that daily operations at the marina will not be disrupted.
This dredging work forms part of a broader strategy for the development of both Larnaca’s port and marina, with the goal of enhancing their role as key drivers of economic growth and maritime activity in the district.
