Elam and far-right Greek Cypriot student group Efen were both included on the north’s annual list of illegal terrorist organisations, which was published on Thursday.
Greek former political party Golden Dawn were also included on the list, as were the Kurdish Workers’ Party (PKK), which has also been proscribed as a terrorist organisation in the European Union and Turkey, alongside associated militant group the People’s Defence Units (YPG).
Other well-known organisations on the list included Hezbollah, Isis, Al-Qaeda, and Boko Haram, while the Fethullah Gulen movement, which attempted a coup d’état in Turkey in 2016, also appeared on the list, notwithstanding Gulen’s death in 2024.
It is illegal in the north to carry flags belonging to any of the listed organisations, while none are allowed to organise in the north.
