The issue of delays at passport control in Paphos Airport has been raised once again by the president of the Paphos regional tourism board (Etap), Kyriakos Drousiotis. The delays have prompted numerous complaints from travel organisers and tourism stakeholders in the region, he stated.
In comments to the Cyprus News Agency (CNA), Drousiotis noted that in many instances, only one officer from the Aliens and Immigration Unit is on duty at passport control, leading to significant delays.
Director of aviation development and communications at Hermes Airports Maria Kouroupi, confirmed to CNA that the issue of adequate staffing at passport control in both Larnaca and Paphos airports is critical and requires immediate resolution.
Drousiotis said he has received numerous calls from disgruntled individuals, prompting him to contact the head of the Aliens and Immigration Unit in Nicosia. According to Drousiotis, he was told that eight officers were scheduled to work during the problematic dates. However, he questioned why only one of them was stationed at passport control.
He also highlighted that when three flights arrive simultaneously, chaos and severe delays ensue.
Kouroupi reiterated that the matter is a serious one that must be addressed promptly. “As the airport operator, we are in constant communication with the police and have provided all necessary information for effective planning,”
“We believe that adequate staffing of passport control is crucial in ensuring smooth service for all passengers at the airports,” she concluded.
