The total number of arrests made over incidences of fan violence at a handball match in Limassol last week has now risen to four, the police said on Tuesday.
They announced that two 24-year-old men had been arrested on Monday for their involvement in violent scenes outside an indoor arena in Limassol, where a match between Apollon and Omonia 29M had been taking place on January 28.
The police said they had intercepted around 100 Omonia 29M fans who were wearing hoods and carrying bats and other “offensive instruments” heading towards the arena.
To stop the fans in their tracks, they said, they had deployed tear gas, while objects thrown in their direction by the fans had “slightly injured” a police officer.
Two other men, aged 32 years old and 22 years old, had already been arrested in connection with the incident.
The police’s investigation into the matter is ongoing.
