A 62-year-old man died on Friday afternoon after being involved in a traffic accident on the motorway between Limassol and Paphos, near the Paphos district village of Koloni.

Paphos police’s assistant operations director Michalis Nikolaou said the man “lost control of his vehicle”, and that it fell thereafter into a ditch on the side of the road.

Then, he said, the vehicle continued in motion for a further 50 metres, before coming to a stop against a guardrail.

The man was taken by ambulance to the Paphos general hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Nikolaou said the man was wearing a seatbelt, and that the police’s investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash are ongoing.
