Plans are afoot to link Paphos’ Tombs of the Kings and Coral Bay beach with a dual carriageway, Akamas mayor Marinos Lambrou said on Tuesday.

Speaking to Paphos-based news website PafosPress, he said his municipality’s current aim is for construction to begin as early as 2026, and that he will “contribute in any way possible for the speedier implementation of the project”.

He said the construction of such a road is of “major importance” for the area, pointing out that around 40 per cent of tourist accommodation in the Paphos district is located on the stretch of coast between the Tombs of the Kings and Coral Bay.

“The existing road does not provide ideal levels of safety for motorists, cyclists, or pedestrians,” he said especially given that in some places, it is unlit and has no pedestrian pavements.

With meetings ongoing between the transport ministry and local authorities, it is hoped that a final plan will be drawn up by the end of this year.
