The 18-year-old learner driver that was caught speeding at 185 km/h on the Nicosia-Larnaca highway on Monday morning has admitted to the charges against him, police have said.
The young man was brought before the Larnaca district court on Monday, where he admitted the charges and was released on bail. His hearing is scheduled for April 4.
Police stopped the young man on the highway at 00.30 on Monday morning.
Learner drivers are not permitted on the highway, while the teen was not accompanied by a driving instructor.
After he was stopped, police carried out a drugs test, which was positive.
Island-wide traffic checks over the week leading up to Sunday, saw more than 2,815 traffic offences recorded. Of these, 987 related to speeding, 185 to using a mobile phone while driving and 163 for not wearing a seatbelt.
Other offences included drink driving, parking illegally and not wearing a helmet while driving a motorbike. In addition, 26 confiscations of illegal substances, 40 car seizures and 14 two-wheeler seizures were registered.
