A police officer has been suspended while the internal investigation service looks into a series of suspected offences, including corruption, the force said on Wednesday.

Investigations are focusing on abuse of power, bribery, dealings with agents which suggest corruption, breach of official secrecy and disclosure of state secrets, fraud and abuse of trust by a public officer, disobedience to provisions of laws related to duty, as well as offenses related to the law on the protection of natural persons against the processing of personal data and the free movement of such data.

The police officer was suspended on orders by chief of police Themistos Arnaoutis.

“The leadership of the police once again stresses that fighting corruption constitutes a priority. The police remain committed to the mission of serving society with integrity and respect,” the police said.
