STYX Film Encounters, a new initiative dedicated to fostering film appreciation through curated screenings, kickstarts the year’s cinema nights with five film screenings this March. The initiative aims to create events where both young and veteran cinema lovers can gather and enjoy landmark films that stimulate not just the senses but also the mind.
Starting on the first Sunday of March, the programme will consist of films that explore the expression of love through unconventional bonds. Filmmakers have long used cinema to grapple with the conditions of romance and relationships as a whole, shaped by the unique social circumstances and temperaments of their time.

With this programme, STYX focuses on love stories that do not conform to typical moulds – stories that challenge established norms, sometimes to dismantle them, and other times to rediscover their meaning and essence. There will be one screening per week. Following each film, there will be a discussion held by local film professionals and experts.
This Sunday’s film that kicks off the series is Belle de Jour, a 1967 film. Athena Xenidou will lead the discussion post-screenings. The film will be shown at Pantheon Cinema at 5.30pm and will include both English and Greek subtitles, as all screenings do.
The following Sunday, March 9, the 1987 Wings of Desire will be screened with the discussion led by Giorgos Stogias. The 1964 film, Woman in the Dunes will be presented on Sunday 16 with Theo Panayides facilitating the evening discussion. On Sunday 23, Hiroshima Mon Amour will be shown, with Alexandra Matheou holding the discussion floor. Finally, on the last Sunday of the month, March 30, Inherence Vice will be screened.
