Cyprus’ chief scientist Demetris Skourides was presented with the Global Leader award during the 2025 Global Business Conclave awards ceremony in London, his ffice announced on Sunday.

The award ceremony took place in the House of Lords in Westminster.

The award presented to Skourides recognised him among the top 100 international leaders for 2025 out of 5,000 nominations.

It is not only a personal distinction for his efforts in internationalising the research and innovation ecosystem of Cyprus, but also a significant distinction for the country itself, his office said.

During the ceremony, Skourides said he has a “responsibility to create new opportunities for Cyprus”, highlighting the island’s high standards in research excellence. He added that distinctions such as the one he received, mark the transformation of Cyprus into a key player in the international economy of knowledge, services, research and innovation.

Skourides was included in the Denim Club, G100, a high-impact network of leaders with direct influence on policymakers, international institutions and economic forums.

He said the distinction reinforces his commitment to creating a future characterised by cutting-edge technologies, sustainable progress and global collaboration. Cyprus, he said, is not just adapting to the future but is actively shaping it.
