A mother and son appeared in court on Tuesday following their arrest the previous day for possession of drugs and explosives.

They were taken before Larnaca district court, which issued a four-day remand order against the son.

Larnaca’s drug squad searched the residence and car of the 21-year-old on Monday, in the presence of his 49-year-old mother who was getting into the car when they arrived.

In the vehicle, police found a handbag with 19 plastic bags containing a total of 7g of what seemed to be cocaine, 4g of cannabis and 7g of cannabis resin, according to philenews.

Police officers then searched the residence and found 11g of cannabis, precision scales, a firework, a flare, five firecrackers and a spray canister with harmful gas, as well as cigarette butts with cannabis, nine cannabis mills, an iron fist and €3,270 in cash.

Both were arrested and placed in custody pending investigations.
