Drivers in parts of Paphos have reported an increase in tyre punctures caused by nails deliberately scattered on certain roads, it emerged on Wednesday.

The Cyprus Mail reached out to the tyre shop that first noticed the phenomenon, citing a recent and unexplained surge in tyre repairs over the past few weeks.

An employee at Costas Tyre Service in Mesoyi confirmed that dozens of cars were arriving daily for repairs due to nail punctures – far exceeding the usual four to five cases per day.

Diko MP Chrysanthos Savvides has been made aware of the issue and has pledged to investigate any potential antisocial behaviour or criminal intent behind the incidents, Philenews reported.

However, Paphos police spokesman Michalis Nikolaou told the Cyprus Mail that police patrols had not encountered any related criminal activity and had received no formal complaints about deliberately placed nails.
