A bright, flaming object was spotted and photographed in the skies over Nicosia on Thursday afternoon, with the Cyprus Astronomy Organisation speculating a possible a meteor sighting.
The object was noticed around 6pm. At least one member of the public took a picture of it.
In a post on Facebook, the Cyprus Astronomy Organisation said the object left a trail of bright light before it disappeared from view.
It called on the public to share any photographs, video footage or information that might help “confirm the nature of the object and its trajectory”.
Daily Politis reported that the matter was being looked into by the police as well as military authorities.
