This weekend brings with it storytelling, charity photography exhibitions, live music, film screenings and pizza nights. Where? All over the island, as events are happening in every corner.

Friday night in Paphos will be dedicated to music. The Groovy Garden celebrates the spring weather and anticipates the summer months with a night of Caribbean vibes and music. Aperitif cocktails, tapas and groovy tunes with a DJ will flow from 5pm onwards, signaling the start of the weekend.

At Technopolis 20, an evening of jazz will unfold on Friday at 8pm with the Charlotte Storer Trio. Performing jazz classics, vocalist Charlotte Storer, Antreas Yerolatsitis on guitar and Kyriakos Kestas on double bass will enchant audiences with a programme of Gershwin ballads, fresh interpretations of Thelonious Monk’s compositions and more.

On Saturday, a charity photography exhibition will take place at Fotodos in Nicosia, raising funds to support the scholarship programme at Bufuka Primary School in Uganda. The Okusiima exhibition, which means ‘grateful’ in the local dialect, will be showcased from 6pm to 9pm, supporting the dream of education for children in Uganda. Behind the photos and the creation of the exhibition are Andri Neokleous and Makis Georgiou.

A storytelling evening awaits in Psevdas village with Marina Katsari and musician Vangelis Gettos. Titled Medieval Tales of Cyprus, the event brings to life the spirits, kings and iron-clad knights of medieval Cyprus, singing of their trials and triumphs. Legends and fairy tales will be told in their natural language, the Cypriot dialect, which reached its peak during the late medieval period. The musical selections will follow the traces of medieval harmonies, which have creatively influenced Cypriot traditional music. The event is free to attend and will take place on Saturday at 6pm at the Community Council of Psevdas.

A musical event will take place in Larnaca as well as the second edition of the Reaching the Limits event takes place. The initiative continues its exploration of boundaries in musical expression. This time, composers are invited to draw inspiration from the city of Larnaca, creating works that reflect its local character through contemporary musical language.

Two concerts will take place this weekend, first in Larnaca on Saturday evening and then in Nicosia on Sunday evening. The participating artists-musicians include Heather Pryce, Chloe Liuyan Liu, Nicolas Psaras, Katerina Despotis, Sean Klink and the Patsiaoura Ensemble.

Two performances will be held at the Common Ground Gallery in Larnaca, at 3pm and 5pm while on Sunday, a single concert will take place at Nicosia’s ARTE Music Academy at 4pm.

A unique concert will take place in Limassol as well, the first public pipe organ concert. Pianist Tatiana Stupak will perform alongside soprano Elena Soskova, playing on a German pipe organ. Saturday’s concert will take place at the Tatiana Stupak School of Music at 6.30pm.

On Sunday, another film screening by STYX Film Encounters will take place at Pantheon Theatre. The 5.30pm screening this week will feature the film Woman in the Dunes, as part of the Love is Strange programme which explores unconventional love stories. Following the 1964 film screening, a discussion with the audience will be held, led by Theo Panayides.

To end the week, a night of pizza, wine and vinyls will entertain those in downtown Nicosia. Biga Neapolitan Pizza teams up with Xynisteri and Yiannoudi wines to pair their Italian dough flavours. In the background cosy vinyl sounds will celebrate spring and set the mood for the evening while a creative marketplace showcases talented artisans and their handcrafted goods.
