The informal meeting in Geneva will provide an opportunity for frank and constructive dialogue, with the aim of finding a mutually acceptable solution for the reunification of Cyprus, Transport Minister Alexis Vafeades said on Sunday.

Speaking at the annual National Memorial Service of the Heroes of the Tsada Community, which was presided over by the Metropolitan of Paphos Tychikos, Vafeades said that the president continues to stress the need for unity and cooperation with all stakeholders, both inside and outside Cyprus, in order to achieve a viable and workable solution.

Vafeades said that in the ongoing and numerous challenges facing Cyprus, President Nikos Christodoulides remains committed to achieving a just and viable solution to the Cyprus problem.

Since taking office, the president has, he said, made constant efforts to relaunch the negotiations with the aim of finding a solution based on the principles of international law, the European acquis and the UN Resolutions.

An important initiative of the president is his forthcoming participation in the informal meeting on the Cyprus problem in Geneva, to be held tomorrow and the day after tomorrow, 17-18 March 2025, he added.

There, he said, the president will stress the need for a solution that ensures the territorial integrity and political equality of Cypriots, while highlighting the Republic of Cyprus’ position on restoring trust between the sides.

He also said that President Christodoulides remains committed to resuming talks from the point where they were suspended in Crans Montana, without discussing other solution forms aimed at consolidating the occupation.
