March 21 is ‘international forest day’ and the forestry department has organised a series of activities for the public to participate in and raise awareness about forests and sustainable management.

This year’s theme is “Forests and Food”.

The main event of the day will be at the Athalassa Environmental Centre, on Friday with Agriculture Minister Maria Panayiotou attending.

While during the weekend various group tours will take place on the nature trails of ‘Chelidonia’, ‘Artemis’, ‘Kyparissia’, ‘Xyliatos Dam’ and ‘Pissouromoutti’.

Also, a cleanup of the Mavrali and Yialia coastal forests will take place on Sunday at 9am until 12pm.
Additionally, the Troodos and the Cape Greco environmental information centres, as well as the Troodos Botanical Garden “AG Leventis” will be open from March 21-23 and entrance will be free.
