An ice age-based theme park in Larnaca’s central Zuhuri Square opened its doors for the first time on Thursday.

The Larnaca municipality said the theme park will be in the square until May 1, inviting “young and old to embark on the most exciting journey through time”.

“Visitors will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the frozen age of mammoths, woolly rhinoceroses, and terrifying sabre-toothed tigers,” it said.

It added that Zuhuri Square has been transformed into a “stunning setting which combines realistic representations of prehistoric animals and simulations of the extreme climate of the time”.

“The park brings to life these magnificent creatures and the everyday life of the people of that era. From the movement of robotic animals to the sounds they produce, visitors will feel as if they have been transported to another world,” it said.

It went on to say that the opening of the theme park constitutes a “unique event” which “combines knowledge and entertainment, offering an educational experience full of discoveries”.

“At the same time, it is a destination for the whole family, offering something special for every age,” it added.

The park will be open from 10am until 8pm every day until May 1.
