Taxi drivers in the Limassol district will be on strike on Wednesday from 8am till 12 noon, the urban taxi federation decided on Friday, in a measure they hope will help solve their long-standing problems.

The federation said the aim was not to cause any inconvenience, but to solve the sector’s problems, “thus the choice of time to not affect students and workers, and the choice of city to not affect passengers travelling to the airports.”

It added that the decision for a strike was taken after many members complained of “pirates” on the roads and key points, while the authorities looked on.

The taxi drivers warned that if the measures they proposed were not adopted, such as policing, supervision and inspections for undeclared work, then they would convene within three weeks to decide on further island-wide measures.
