A unique and rather different event is coming up this March in Nicosia, dedicated to the women of Wikipedia. Or rather to the women featured or that deserve to be featured on Wikipedia. Titled Mind the WikiGap Cyprus 2025, next Saturday’s event aims to close the gender gap with a one-day edit-a-thon.
Organised by the Wikimedia Community User Group Cyprus, the event will be an all-day edit-marathon held at Goethe-Institut Cyprus from 9.30am to 4pm. The event is part of their activities for International Women’s Day and held under the auspices of Commissioner for Gender Equality Josie Christodoulou and is supported by the Goethe-Institut Cyprus, the Girls in STEAM Academy and the WICZ+ Foundation.
“This in-person gathering aims to amplify the voices and contributions of women from diverse backgrounds on the world’s largest online encyclopedia,” say organisers. “Through interactive workshops and engaging discussions, we will explore ways to increase representation and improve content related to women and cultural diversity. “Whether you’re a seasoned editor or new to Wikipedia, this event offers a unique opportunity to learn, connect and make a difference.”
A full detailed schedule and guidelines will be provided to those who fill out the online registration form and the event will offer drinks, snacks and lunch to all who attend.
