For the fourth consecutive year, Huawei continues to invest in the future of young people by providing scholarships to students from public and private universities in Cyprus. The initiative aims to cultivate local talent in the field of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), offering opportunities for young people to develop their skills and contribute to shaping the country’s digital future.
The “Seeds for the Future” scholarship programme comes under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth and the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy.
On behalf of the Minister of Education, Athena Michaelidou, Director General George Panteli addressed the event. The Minister expressed her appreciation for Huawei’s continued commitment to investing in education and talent development.
“We celebrate the achievements of outstanding students who have been awarded these scholarships, we celebrate the academic excellence, ambition and values at the heart of our efforts to nurture the next generation of leaders and innovators. We reward not only the academic achievements of students, but also the promise that they will have a lasting impact on the future of our society,” he was quoted as saying in the address.
For his part, the Deputy Director General of the Deputy Ministry of Research and Innovation, George Komodromos, pointed out that initiatives such as Huawei’s “Seeds for the Future” scholarship programme are in line with Cyprus’ national vision. “By equipping students with the necessary tools, knowledge and financial support, we collectively support the new generation in the field of ICT,” he said.

The scholarships were awarded at a special ceremony, attended by representatives of the academic community, students and Huawei executives, highlighting the company’s commitment to invest in the new generation of professionals and enhance the development of the ICT sector in Cyprus.
The development of the ICT sector is a vital priority, as the industry is constantly evolving, creating an increasing demand for skilled professionals. Huawei recognises this need and, through its scholarships, seeks to encourage more students to pursue careers in the technology sector, bridging the skills gap and enhancing the employability of young graduates.
Since 2021, more than 120 people have received scholarships, with the total amount allocated for scholarships in 2024 being €30,000. Huawei remains committed to supporting the next generation of talent by enhancing their academic and career prospects.
“At Huawei, we continuously invest in the future through education and innovation. The delivery of these scholarships is a practical demonstration of our commitment to support the youth of Cyprus, giving them the skills to excel in the technologies of tomorrow,” said Elias Yiannilas, Country Manager of Huawei in Cyprus. “We believe knowledge and skills development are the drivers of progress, and through initiatives like this, we seek to foster talent and help shape a more innovative and digital future for our country.”
Within the framework of the 2024 “Seeds for the Future” scholarship programme, 30 students from the following universities have already been selected:
