The most hospitable “House” in Cyprus, the first and only hostel that offers free accommodation for families, welcomed media representatives for an experiential tour and an introduction to its mission, its work and its staggering figures.
On March 19, 2025, guests visited the Ronald McDonald House (RMHC Cyprus), where they had the opportunity to get to know the modern and comfortable facilities of the “House”. As part of the visit, they attended a thorough presentation of the work and mission of RMHC Cyprus, feeling the pulse of giving and love that permeates every aspect of its operation. Thus, they got an essential first taste of the positive and deeply human impact that RMHC Cyprus’ overall work has on the daily lives of the families.

They also found that no room at Ronald McDonald House is ever empty. All 13 available rooms are constantly full, reflecting the constant and growing need for accommodation by families of children in need of support. The unremitting daily efforts of the House’s staff and volunteers to respond to every call were fully on display.
In fact, the Ronald McDonald House is not just a modern hostel offering free accommodation, food and support. It is much more. It is a warm “Home” full of hope, optimism and love. A true “haven” for any family struggling and who needs a loving “hug” in their most difficult times.

During her address, Elena Andreou, President of the Board of Directors of Ronald McDonald House Charities Cyprus, framed the urgency of the continuation of the mission.
“Ronald McDonald House has already counted over 800 days of operation since September 1, 2022, when it first opened its doors,” she noted. “Since then, it has provided invaluable assistance, to more than 600 Families, helping to save more than one million Euros, an amount corresponding to expenses that would have had to be covered by the Families at a particularly difficult time.
“To date, the House has provided more than 7,000 overnight stays to families. However, in order to continue to offer this hospitality and support, as well as to operate continuously, it needs the constant help of volunteers. The volunteers and friends of RMHC Cyprus are the driving force that strengthens and supports our mission of keeping families together.”

The event’s key message was to stress RMHC Cyprus is the only Cyprus charity that offers support not only to the patient, but also to parents and siblings of hospitalised children. Such support allows families to stay close to their child, boosting them psychologically and keeping their hope alive.
