Warmer weather, blooming flowers, road trips to rural Cyprus and a packed agenda await in the last weekend of March. Coming up this Thursday to Sunday are comedy nights, village festivals, performances, annual tattoo event and in true Cypriot fashion gatherings to eat, drink and socialise.

Launching Nicosians into the weekend is an open mic night, especially for emerging stand-up comedians. This will be particularly interesting for the local anglophone community as the stand-up comedy event tonight will be held in English. Organised by the Comedy Project CY, the event at Prozak will welcome comedians of all levels and experiences who wish to share their material to the floor. Participation is free and the open mic will begin at 8pm.

Also happening in Nicosia this weekend is the Taper performance, a Greek-Cypriot theatrical reading that explores generational trauma and post-war stories through the relationship with grandmothers, food and the containers they are shared in. The performance will premiere on Friday at Dancehouse Lefkosia by the Yasemin Collective and two more shows will follow on the weekend.

Friday night in Paphos will be dedicated not only to music but also to helping those battling cancer. A Year of Czech Music at Markideio Theatre charity concert will raise money for the Cyprus Association of Cancer Patients and Friends. Performing a series of Czech compositions will be violinist Andreas P Nicolaou and pianist Galina Dimova.

Limassol’s biggest event this weekend will be the annual Tattoo Convention, taking over the Carob Mill complex from March 28 to 30. This is an anniversary edition as the convention celebrates its 10th year. Over 100 tattoo artists participate will take part and the weekend will fill with professionals and ink enthusiasts. Live performances this year will include shows by Logos Apeilh featuring Tiny Jackal and The Boots.

In Larnaca, a unique event is happening on Saturday gathering the island’s curlyheads – and there are many. Boucles Porject is organising a Curls Masterclass & Private Shopping Experience at the Larnaca Municipal Market from 10am to 4pm. The masterclass will take place at 2pm and include a live demonstration on how to style curls, sharing techniques, tips and answering questions. Attendees will be able to browse curly products all day from 10am, talk to specialists and receive personalised recommendations.

In full spring fever, Polemi village hosts its annual Wild Tulip Festival celebrating this endemic flower. On Sunday, the village is putting on a colourful festival at the Metochi Cultural Centre with the activities beginning at 11am.

Finally, an event in Nicosia’s old town will be the perfect Sunday get-together for foodies. The popular bakery Honest Bread will team up with café-bar 7 Kleidia to present an event that will feature three sandwiches and a menu of beers and wines. The three sandwiches are a fried cod/tartare sauce/gerkins combo; a slow-cooked beef with horseradish mayo, pickles and a potato bun; and a mix mushrooms, aioli, chimichurri and pitta bread. The kitchen opens at 4pm serving until the food runs out.
