A 50-year-old man was arrested in Limassol on Thursday night for allegedly promising a woman to arrange her illegal transfer from abroad to Cyprus, police said on Friday.

The arrest followed a complaint made by a 33-year-old woman to the police that she had paid €12,000 to the suspect who allegedly showed her fake passports from another European country in an attempt to convince her that she would be able to travel there later.

The 50-year-old is set to appear in court later on Friday for a detention order.

He is accused of multiple offenses committed between November 2024 and March 2025, including committing a felony, forgery, circulating a false document, misappropriation of property through false representation and aiding and abetting illegal entry, transit and residence in the Republic.

Limassol police is continuing its investigations.
