A demonstration by United for Palestine Nicosia took place on Saturday to mark the anniversary of Land Day, starting at Eleftheria Square.

According to a statement from the organisation, “demonstrators gathered to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people and their enduring fight for freedom and self-determination. The demonstration featured speeches from both local and Palestinian activists, who called for sustained international solidarity and emphasised the urgent need for collective action.”

Among other things, it added that United for Palestine demands an immediate end to the occupation and settlement of all Palestinian territories, the right of return of all Palestinian refugees as provided for in UN Resolution 194, an immediate and permanent ceasefire and lifting of the illegal blockade of Gaza and “an end to the complicity of the Cypriot government and the process of normalisation of relations between Cyprus and Israel”.
