The creation of another 60 all-day-schools and an Easter allowance for low-income pensioners will be discussed at the Council of Ministers, President Nikos Christodoulides said ahead of the meeting on Monday morning.

He said the planned creation of 60 more all-day schools came with “several social dimensions”, adding it was part of his pre-election campaign.

Christodoulides said the concept of all-day schools added particular value to education. The extra schools would bring to 99 the total number of all-day schools in Cyprus.

Ministers are also set to pass a proposed €250 Easter allowance for low-income pensioners.

Christodoulides highlighted that this marked an increase of 30 per cent from last year, noting it was an important step in supporting vulnerable retirees. It would affect around 11,000 people.
