A new cycle path will be built near Athalassa park on the side of Kalamon and Glafcos Clerides Avenue to the park’s south, the transport ministry announced on Monday.
The path, which will also have a footpath next to it, will effectively extend the current cycle path which runs on the side of the road from the Nicosia general hospital roundabout eastwards until the turnoff for the Athalassa park.
Once the project is completed, the cycle path will follow the road until it ends at Athalassa Avenue.
The transport ministry said the new cycle path will be around 2.9 kilometres long.
Additionally, the project will extend the footpath on Latsia’s Kantara Street northwards from where it currently ends at the turnoff for Argolidos Street until the road ends at its t-junction with Kalamon and Glafcos Clerides Avenue.
The works will also include the creation of an “urban equipment strip” with trees, benches, and bins, as well as new road lighting, pedestrian crossings, signs, and a “rainwater management system”.
The project will cost a total of €3.126 million plus value added tax and has been assigned to A&C Angeli construction Ltd and Midsign Cyprus Ltd. It is expected to be completed by the autumn of next year.
