The International Coordinating Committee Justice for Cyprus (Pseka) has called for the rejection of any effort to reinstate Turkey in the programme for US F35 fighter jets or lift the sanctions according to the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA).

“The most advanced fighter jet, the F35, should only be available to America’s most trusted allies. Turkey wants the United States to lift CAATSA sanctions and readmit it into the F35 programme,” Pseka said in a press release.

It added that “Turkey, a member of Nato, has demonstrated time and time again that it’s not a trusted ally.”

“Appeasement did not work with Hitler and it would not work with dictator Erdogan,” Pseka said.

It calls on people to “sign the HALC letter addressed to Secretary Rubio demanding that any discussion of lifting CAATSA sanctions must start with Turkey.”

Cyprus News Agency sources said Pseka met on Monday with the Senate foreign affairs committee chairman, Republican senator Jim Reese, who said he would not allow Turkey to rejoin the F35 programme.

The Hellenic American Leadership Council (HALC) had expressed its concern over information that the Trump administration was examining the possibility of lifting CAATSA sanctions against Turkey and reinstating Turkey in the F35 programme.
