Twenty-one Syrians arrived by boat in Famagusta area early on Monday morning, mobilising the authorities, and one person was arrested on suspicion of trafficking migrants.

According to the police, at around 1am the police received information that a boat was sailing off Cape Greco.

A port police vessel found the boat with 21 migrants on board.

The boat was towed to shore and those on board were taken to Larnaca port to determine their details.

They were found to be Syrians and where then taken to Pournara reception centre.

Police investigations led to a 33-year-old, who was arrested on suspicion of being the trafficker.

The suspect will be taken before the Larnaca district court on Tuesday for a remand order.

Larnaca police are investigating.
