XM Supports Hope For Children’s Mission to Protect Children from Abuse

More than 2,000 parents and children sought assistance for cases of bullying and abuse from the 1466 Helpline operated by Hope For Children, with the Support of XM.

In 2023, the Helpline received 890 calls. In 2024, this number more than doubled surging to 2,120. Operating daily, 24 hours a day, the Helpline offers psychological, social, and legal support to children and adults seeking help and guidance in cases of abuse, neglect, and violence.

XM is the technical infrastructure sponsor of the 1466 Helpline operated by Hope For Children CRC Policy Center, significantly contributing to the immediate support offered to children and families across Cyprus.

A large portion of the calls concerns cases of school bullying, difficulties with school adaptation, delinquent behaviours, and online violence. However, a considerable number relate to more serious issues such as domestic violence, sexual abuse, and child neglect. These reports are made not only by children themselves, but also by parents or concerned third parties, highlighting the urgent need for accessible protection mechanisms.

The Helpline also plays an important role in Cyprus’ foster care system, offering support to foster parents dealing with difficulties related to foster children or managing a crisis, particularly outside government office hours. Additionally, the Helpline extends its support to families in need of basic essentials such as clothing, food, and childcare items, assisting vulnerable households facing financial hardships that directly impact children’s well-being.

Very often, the challenges children report through the 1466 Helpline are directly or indirectly linked to the increased use of social media and digital technologies, which heighten pressure and risk. To address these concerns, Hope For Children conducts seminars and awareness campaigns for parents and educators, promoting safe internet use and digital well-being.

Education and awareness among children also remain a priority. In 2024 alone, the organization’s awareness workshops reached approximately 7,000 students in public and private schools across Cyprus, an achievement made possible with XM’s support.

In a statement, Hope For Children Executive Director, Andria Neocleous, said:

“Through our long-standing collaboration with XM, we ensure rapid response to child protection issues, enhancing our counselling and psychological support services. Our partnership allows us to make a meaningful difference in children’s lives, offering them a safe environment and immediate access to help when they need it most.”

The importance of such Helplines is also underscored by the strategies of the European Union and the Council of Europe, which call on member states to establish child-friendly mechanisms for rapid intervention in cases of rights violations.

XM’s support, has given children a Helpline they can turn to safely, finding immediate help and hope.
